Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839), born in Sweden, established the Long system (also known as Swedish Movement Treatment), later developed into the Swedish or Holistic Massage. This system is described as a treatment with massage and medical gymnastics to assist in relief of pain and malfunctions of the body.

The treatment consists of relaxing the muscles using various techniques in order to warm and treat them.

Techniques will include: effleurage, friction, pétrissage (kneading and squeezing), tapotement (pounding, hacking, cupping, plucking), traction.

Swedish body massage is beneficial for the mind and body. Physical benefits include improvement of skin, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary system, muscles, skeleton, cardiovascular system, lymphatic system and nervous system.

Psychologically, Swedish Massage will create a feeling of well-being, promoting deep stages of relaxation and reducing the levels of stress and anxiety.
