The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means “the higher intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the universe” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”. Researched in the 20th century by a Japanese man called Mikao Usui, Reiki was believed to have always existed as our bodies natural way of healing but had never, until then, been fully studied.

When our Ki is flowing uninterrupted there is balance and harmony throughout, within and around us. A sense of overall wellbeing, lightness, peace, energy and connection will embrace us. Though when there is some blockage our ki will suffer. Reiki will then make this/these blockages begin to flow and cure by itself.

“As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing and supporting the bocies natural ability to heal itself” Mikao Usui.

Reiki treatments are safe and smooth healing using the practitioners hands laid upon specific energy energy points, for a few minutes each, throughout the body. Clients do not need to undress apart from removing shoes and jewellery.

Reiki has its own way of healing and will heal where necessary the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual health. It can also manifest with great power or very subtly depending on the need. Most common sensations are a great sense of relaxation, feeling about to sleep, heavy breathing, heat and shifting where the hands are placed, tingling or an emotional response. These are all symptoms of the body’s natural ability to release the blockages.

Post treatment sensations: clients might feel coldish or feverish for a short period, some people feel more energy, others a bit worn out. It is an individual process of restoration. Reiki has no known contra-indications and may speed up healing of bones (early stage), injuries, insomnias, fatigue, muscular tension, inflammation, emotional distress, anxiety and pain.
